My PB + J

Play Felt Christmas Tree {DIY}

When I saw this play felt tree on Pinterest I knew I had to make it for sweet P. I had shown it to the hubby and forgot about it until he was dropping me off at Joann’s and he so kindly reminded me that I needed to purchase the felt. Remind me again why felt is so.damn.cheap? Not only was it already half off but the bolt I picked up only had two yards left and I only wanted one so the worker said she would give me the second yard for 40% off only paying 10%. Needless to say I have enough green felt to make  a felt tree every year until P turns twelve (or, if any SD friends want some let me know). Not only was this a fast DIY and when I say fast, I mean like I threw it up on the wall in a matter of ten minutes, no joke. Yeah, I could spent some nit picky time on it but it works for now and maybe the one for next year will have a little more detail put into it. P loves decorating her “ismis tree” over and over again.

Here’s what I did:
– I held the felt up to the wall where I wanted it to go, made a mark and threw it on the floor and eye-balled a triangle or something that sorta resembled one. I then made small triangular cuts to give the tree some dimension. Should’ve ironed the tree…
– Took some felt squares in various colors and cut circles, squares, ovals. The presents were done the same way and then hot glue adhered the “ribbon”.
-I used permanent glue dots to stick it to the wall, they won’t take the paint off but if it does I am not worried because this wall needs to be touched up anyhow.
– I then placed the ornaments, presents and star on the tree. I originally purchased Velcro circles to make sure they really stuck but the felt has no problem staying up.
– Introduced P to her tree and now she decorates it and un-decorates it over and over. Success.

Cost-
Green Felt – Originally $4.99/yard, on sale for $2.50. – one yard for the width is needed
Felt Squares – $.39 each x 6

= Cheap

Fall ‘harvest’ bunting {DIY}

After my last Fall DIY project I quickly started looking for other projects I could whip up while I was counting down the days until my baby arrived. I knew I wanted something for my fireplace so I turned to Pinterest for Fall inspired bunting. I found this tutorial here, it looked easy peasy so I went to Joann’s and found the items and then they sat and sat. That was until yesterday afternoon when both kiddos were napping, I was cleaning off one of my counters and decided to quickly cut out the burlap which led to tracing the letters and then modge podging it up before we left to watch the Alabama game. Basically what I am saying here is that this is a quick and easy project you can fit into your busy lives. Make one for Fall or for Christmas!
What you’ll need:
  • Burlap, I purchased a 1/4 yard. – depending on the sale you get this can cost pennies.
  • Pom-Pom Fringe – I chose brown. – $3.79/yard I purchased two yards.
  • Fall Leaves – These might be a little more difficult to find now that Christmas has taken over the craft stores. I purchased mine in early October at Michael’s for $1 for a pack eighteen.
  • Brown Sharpie or other permanent brown pen
  • Modge Podge
  • Hot Glue

I printed out ‘Harvest’ in a font I knew would be easy to trace and fill.
after filling in the traced letters I laid out wax paper and put a pretty good coat of modge podge on to ensure no fraying, it also took out the small amount of wrinkles. I let them sit for a few hours and they peeled off without a problem.

I used hot glue to adhere the trim and fall leaves and voila!

Payton playing with her “pumpkims”

I am really happy the way the bunting came out, mine is a little different from the tutorial because I never looked back at it until today after I hung it up. I did not trim the extra trim away from the letters and my leaves are all the same orientation. I thought of trimming the pom-pom’s but for how much the two yards cost I decided I wanted to see as many of those little balls as possible!

Yarn Wreath {DIY Project}

I don’t know about you but I am addicted to Pinterest, I only visit once a day now to see what’s going on but I always get the best ideas! I haven’t done any of the craft projects I have pinned just recipes that was until my friend, Janelle, sent me a text with the most gorgeous yarn wreath that I saw her pin a few weeks back. She assured me it was easy enough to do so I set out to my local Michael’s craft store and purchased the necessary items. I started while P was napping and finished a few hours later. The most time consuming part was wrapping the wreath in the yarn but so worth it in the end! The tutorial we both followed can be found here .

Because I tend to skip some directions I didn’t really follow it 100%. But here’s the breakdown of what I used:

One Skein Vanna’s Yarn in Rust – $2.50 (on sale)
One Straw Wreath – $2.99
Two Sheets Cream Felt – .29 each
One Sheet Espresso Felt – .29
Two Sheets Burgundy Felt – .29 each
One Sheet Sage Felt – .29
Medium Brown Pom-Pom’s – .99
Ribbon – I had on hand.
Total Cost: $7.65 + the materials I already had (hot glue, ribbon)

I am moving the wreath to my back door but I need to purchase a door hanger. I think it came out pretty well for a first time project. I can see many more of these in my future.
Have you made any projects you have found on Pinterest? If so, how did it go?
