My PB + J

crusin’ for a bruisin’. . . literally.

This weekend was jammed packed and super fun! My first week at my new job was a success (I am totally loving it!) and I had the weekend off to spend with my loves. Yesterday I had a baby shower cupcake order for an old friend that I have known since middle school. It was so great seeing her, she was so stinkin’ cute as a prego lady. Once I get pictures from her I will post them on my cupcake blog, I totally had my DSLR with me and went to go take pictures and I forgot my SD card. . . boo! After leaving Temecula I made my way back down to RB and met Jim and Payton over at his best friend Marcus’ house for his family’s 7th annual party. We can always count on Marcus for having at least one college/pro basketball player for their tournament they hold, a few years ago Jordan Farmar made an appearance for his old coach. It was really fun to watch Darnell Gant of the Washington Huskies playing ball with the little and big kids this year. We will definitely be watching the 6’8″ Huskies player this year! While Daddy was participating in the festivities of a 3-Point shoot out, dunking, 3 on 3 and two ball; Miss Payton and I were doing what we do best, talking! I met some great people, whom I might add loved my cupcakes and one family gave me the best compliment I have ever been given. They said that they have eaten at all the great cupcake bakeries out there: Magnolia, Susie Cakes, Batter Up! and Sprinkles and out of those bakeries they said mine were the best they have ever had! I was giddy, this is why I keep on baking! I love hearing from the people who indulge into them. I even got a few cards for future orders! Yippee! Besides chatting I was keeping P happy by putting her in her first big girl car. It was so cute watching her figure out what I was doing to her. At first she thought she should be playing with the pedals and once I started pushing her around she had one hand on the wheel and one outside of the car. So cute!
Today we met with a nanny service, college nannies, and soon after the lady left we realized that I would basically be working to pay to have a stranger watch Payton three days a week. So now I am going to call a daycare that a few of Jim’s co-workers send their little ones to. I am totally against daycare (Grandma too), only because I was not a child that attended one. Unfortunately, it is just a decision that we are leaning towards right now. After the lady left we headed to the park to take Payton to swing for a little bit and then headed over to the grass to let her explore for the first time.
Our weekend was great, besides that our child now looks like we have beaten her. I guess it is just a glimpse into our near future as she continues to learn how to walk. She is just growing and exploring so much these days. Where did our little baby go?
Happy Monday! Make it a great week!
I love her little scrunch nose. You may notice a little cut on her right eye. It was self-inflicted by her nails. Today she was cruising and in the dining room she found two cake plates and she knocked one down onto her left eye. Mommy of the Year over here!
Cruisin’ in the car watching the 3-point shoot out.
Sexy Daddy and Cutie Pie
Sitting on the grass for the first time. She kept moving her legs back and forth while digging her piggly wiggly’s into the blades.
Lovin’ the texture
Ohhh! This looks like fun Ma-ma!

Yep! Pretty fun, it breaks off when I pull on it unlike doggy’s tail.
and it tastes pretty good. Thanks ma-ma and da–da!

Back to work I go!

Last night we said goodbye to Miss P for the week. She will be staying with Grandma and Papa until Friday since I started my new job today. It was definitely a lot more difficult leaving her this time around vs. leaving for Vegas three weeks ago. There was a point when I laid her down for the third attempt that Jim and I were saying our goodbye’s and we were both crying. The mentality this time around made things a lot harder. I guess last time it was easier since we were going out of state and we knew when we got back I could nap and hold her all day. I have been so blessed to have spent the first four months of her life on maternity leave and then returned back to work only having worked for a few months. The past six weeks have been difficult because leaving my old job was not planned, so financially it has been rough but we are managing like most people do. My new job, which is a step down from my past job will offer me less stress at work and at home. I will not have to be on-call 24/7, I am getting paid more, which is a huge plus and it’s for a company that has their shit together. The downside for me is that the restaurant I will be located at is open 365, 7 am-12 am so it bums me out slightly that I will most likely be away from my baby on her first Halloween, Thanksgiving and possibly even her birthday. I just have to keep my head up because this job is for the better and I know I will be happier in general. Maybe it’s a sign that I just need to suck it up and be an “adult”.

I am more than thankful to have spent more than five months with my baby girl. Now, the pursuit to finding a nanny begins!
Could you leave this silly girl?!

Playing in her walker in the kitchen while I bake cookies. She was eating her “puffies” and giggling at her pup.

And for you viewing pleasure a shot at her two bottom teethies! The top two have started to break through. Luckily, my Mom is a saint and is dealing with my unhappy girl as she goes through the addition of her top two chompers.

I would have left her eyes to make you giggle, but my better half said I better not “embarrass” her. ha ha.
For those working mama’s out there, where did you find your nanny’s? I have heard of collegenannies.com (but they have not called me back, boo!) and placing an ad on craigslist. Ideas?
For those curious as to why I left my General Management position it is an extremely long story. It was not planned. The last day I worked was my birthday (6/22), I was blackmailed into quitting by a very evil child who is sleeping with the owner. The owner, was once someone I could call a friend, but when your man parts start controlling your business and relationships, especially one of a gold-digging, trashy, blue-eyeshadow wearing skank one needs to escape the childish games for a healthy, happy life.  ðŸ™‚ I am not bitter, it was all a blessing in disguise and it feels liberating writing that. It is my blog right?

Picture Day at Old Poway Park

Last week when I got home from Spin class we had discussed going to the Poway farmer’s market but I had to get up to Temecula to meet my sister, niece and nephew to see “Despicable Me”. We made the plan to make it a part of our day the following week, so yesterday we woke up early and drove a few miles over to the market. It was our first time there and it was so cute! The paper had stated that the market was cheaper than the grocery stores and our local Henry’s, which wasn’t the case when we were walking around. We still managed to support our local farmers and picked up some: peaches, plums, nectarines, green and yellow beans, fresh flowers, an array of small squashes and the BEST German stuffed sausage sandwich. I love old Poway, I always see my store front on Midland in the cute old-time buildings, plus, the railroad is a huge hit for kids of all ages. We exited the market and took a stroll through the park and snapped a few pictures, I am in love with the park! I can totally see a small gathering of friends and family there. After the park and market we headed home for a few minutes and then headed to our Aunt and Uncle’s house to take Payton swimming for the first time. Sadly, I do not have any pictures, but she was a natural! I think we spent over an hour in the pool, she kicked, splashed  and tried to eat her floatie. On other Payton news, her two bottom teeth have broken through and every time I see them I just giggle. She is going to look so stinkin’ cute with pearly whites!
Please excuse the picture overload, but we (I) got a little picture happy. Hope y’all are having a great weekend!

This booth was my favorite. Despite not making a purchase I went back three time just to look. She had bunches of mixed color carrots, purple beans, watermelon radishes, micro greens, fresh garbanzo beans and gorgeous looking herbs.

This was the best sandwich, EVER. It was a spicy German pork sausage that oozed Gouda cheese from the center, stuffed into a fresh baguette with hot mustard and salty sauerkraut. It was bananas! We’re going back next week for another round!
This booth also had homemade salami which I will also be purchasing for a holiday get together.

This was the first high school in Poway and the gathering location for the Templar’s.

and look who has enough hair for a little pony! 🙂

Bartender, A shot of whisky please!

I dreamt about this post last night. I cannot conclude if I am constantly living with a bloggers mentality or if I just need to seek help. ha! Our lives in the Atkinson household were somewhat on a routine:
6:30 – 7:45 AM: Payton would wake up
9:30 – 11:30 AM : Down for a morning nap
  2:00 – 4:00 PM : Afternoon nap
7:00 PM : Dinner, bath time, nighttime bottle
8:00 PM : In crib fast asleep
But lately, since she has been teething she has not slept through the night, waking up not once but sometimes three or four times. I know Jim and I were totally spoiled early on from six weeks that she was sleeping 12+ hours a night. Little Miss will scream in her sleep, fall back asleep, scream and then wake-up in the middle of the night. Usually it is solved by me giving her a bottle, changing her diaper and then she flips over to her tummy and she is out. Even our nighttime routine that once was easiest time of day is now a chore to get her to fall asleep by 9 PM. ugh. I just feel helpless! We have tried Tylenol (target brand, don’t worry), Highland’s teething tablets, baby orajel, teething rings and a frozen washcloth. What else can a mama do to help a restless baby that is constantly in pain.
And. . . to top it all off P is battling really bad diaper rash. I am calling her Pediatrician today to make an appointment because like her teethers, we have tried everything for that too. Please don’t get me wrong, I know this is a part of parenting but when your child is crying, screaming, kicking and then looking at you for help and all you can do is cry with them it takes a toll on your mental health. But, things aren’t always this bad, she is still a happy baby when the drugs actually help her it just seems that 3 of the 7 days are crazy. Like yesterday for instance, my sister and I took the kiddos to the zoo. It was a great day, perfect San Diego temperature of 70 with overcast skies, lunch, lots of beautiful animals and the excitement that the kids had. But once the nighttime routine begins, oy ve! Just give me a shot of whisky to get me through to when the sun comes up again.
see happy! She loves her cousins, they were standing with my sister making monkey sounds.
I hope they continue to be close their whole lives.
Whatcha Doin!?
(in Isabella’s voice from Phineas and Ferb)

Then at home hanging out under her jumperoo heading straight for the curtains.

A Letter to Payton – 7 Months

Dear Payton-
Today you are seven months! It is crazy to think that we are in the second half of your first year. Everyone that told us time would fly was spot on. The other day when we returned from our Las Vegas getaway I was going through your dresser to weed out your smaller clothes. When I got to your onesie and shirt drawer, which is typically a mess and very rare that you wear anything from there I found that only three of the shirts actually fit you. I showed Daddy one of your 0-3 month onesies on my belly and we both got really sad. You have gotten so big, so fast. You have reached twenty pounds, which is just crazy considering I was only 19 pounds when I was a year old. Your wardrobe is diminishing as you are wearing 12+ month clothing. You love food, which is very apparent considering your size. We just started you on two meals a day and you have yet to reject anything that we have presented. I love feeding you! I find so much joy in watching you everyday and luckily we have had another month together without me leaving you everyday. I could really get used to not working but unfortunately bills need to be paid and Momma has to go back to work. Daddy and I spend our evenings watching you discover your surroundings and are finding ourselves telling you “no” very often. You are very smart and completely aware of your surroundings. I could go on and on bragging about you but I am going to stop myself. Everyday you amaze me, I love you more than life itself and thank you for your continuous loving smiles, giggles and “looks”. You are what gets me through the day.

– You said “da-da” today. Sadly, daddy didn’t hear it because you and I had walked to target.
– You are an independent sitter, you crawl, and are starting to pull yourself up into a standing position.
– You already know how to get your way, please help me Lord for our future.
– Still no teethers. We can feel one starting to break through though. (please tooth gods, this mama is worn out from the misery teething causes!)
– We spent one week away from you for the first time this month. It went well and from what Grandma and Papa say you were an angel.
– You have started finger foods and apple juice from a sippy cup.
– New foods this month are: raspberry, pear, cauliflower, broccoli, mango, cherries and you will be introduced to your first meats, turkey and lamb.

xoxo-

Mommy

She was so not happy when I took her monthly pictures. She hardly slept and barely even gave me a smile all day due to her hurting mouth.

Playing with her puffs.

Showing Mommy and Daddy she knows how to hold them not only in her fingers but where she is hiding them.

and she is a little confused that they are all supposed to go in her mouth.

One of her many “looks”.
Chasing after Mama. This girl can book it!
