 i am linking up with what makes savanah smile and a night owl blog

last night we bbq’d with the aunt & uncle. i had prepped everything at our house and we grilled over there. payton and uncle al and well, apparently brady-kins couldn’t wait for the corn to be done grilling. they all shared this cob and then payton and uncle al moved on to a second.

my angel swinging away on thursday evening. daddy was away on business so we had dinner at the park.
on friday afternoon the p’ster and i went for a swim, this was my first time in our new pool.

after swimming i bbq’d us these beauts for dinner. yummmm. would you like to see the recipe?
sunday morning brayden and i went out to run errands. while at joann’s i decided to pick-up pappy to start a new gnome family since mine was stolen. oh, did i forget to mention that? memorial service to come.

and the best way to end the weekend was with this amazing chunky monkey pie. i seriously whipped it up within five minutes as jim, al and the kiddos drove the golf cart around the corner to drop off the food.

first party of the summer

well, technically not “summer” but our first party. does this bother anyone else how memorial day always starts the saying, “it’s summer”. maybe for me since my birthday is the day after the summer solstice that truly means it’s summer. or, maybe i am just a weirdo. that’s probably it. yesterday we threw our first last minute memorial day barbeque. we had friends, family and new neighbors over for grilled yumminess, tasty desserts, fattening dip and a lot of beer and margies. the weather was gorg and the kids had a blast in the pool. i foresee a lot of parties in our future!

her pre-memorial day outfit.

a popsicle for breakfast.

i grilled a bit.

jim splashed a bit.

and we smiled A LOT!

janelle and her family came.
the dessert spread: mini cherry pies, coconut refrigerator cake, and lemon brownies. recipes to come.

my sister a.k.a the most patriotic of us all.
hope you all had a great holiday weekend.

it’s a weekly thang! {weigh-in wednesdays}

last week i was on a high that i finally met a goal, god, that felt great, like really great! i made it to the park with the kids a few days and i started noticing that my jeans were really loose in my thigh area. at first i was peeved because i am sick of saggy jeans and wasting money on denim that i hope to never wear again. i was just getting ready to tell jim that i needed to purchase another pair when a light went off and said to go look in your denim drawer. i picked the first jeans on top, my true religion’s. i slipped them on and they fit, like i could actually button those suckers. i went running down the hallway, jumped in front of jim and said a nice profanity filled statement and squealed. it was a great feeling, a victory. you see, i have not been able to wear any of my old jeans since i was first preggo with payton. they have sat lonely in my bottom drawer, at least for now i can wear one pair, the rest will hopefully get some attention in a month or so. i leave you with a picture of my ass, just what you needed to get your wednesday off to the right start…

here we go ’round the mulberry bush {a recipe}

over the weekend we walked on over to our neighbor’s house, the aunt and uncle’s, and walked around the property looking at all of uncle al’s fruit trees. i had never been on one part of the property, which was weird after knowing them for twelve years and living there for three. there is absolutely every fruit tree you could imagine: papaya, tangelos, cherry, avocado, guava, banana and almonds just to name a few. but the really cool thing is that they have three mulberry trees. the largest one sits right as you enter their driveway but it’s a fruitless mulberry, hence, why i never thought mulberries ever existed until yesterday! when we walked around the front side yard we saw the fruit filled mulberry tree, and no, i did not trot around humming the childhood song. i was in awe, the fruit looked like colorful caterpillars hanging from the branch. the fruit tastes like a cross between a plum, blackberry and a fig, it was like nothing i had ever eaten before. uncle al and aunt kathy had picked all the ripe fruit earlier and had prepared it for grandmom phyllis and i to bake a pie. so that’s what we did and then we waited and waited for it to bake. it was heaven on earth, hands down the best pie i have eaten in a long time.

one variety of apples found on the property.
one of five tortoises. two were babies living in a cage when we first started dating. now their digging deep tunnels on the property.

a mulberry hanging from the tree.

the cleaned berries ready for phyllis and i to get started.
we used this recipe. we omitted the cinnamon and i added in the zest of one lemon. we skipped the homemade crust and used store bought. when rest of the fruit is ripe i plan on trying it with fresh cherries or even apples.

after one hour this was the finished product. one bite in and al and i decided it needed ice cream, he ran off to the store. we were the only two that waited. even better.

ugh. i wish i ate two slices. delish! if you can track down a mulberry tree with fruit make a pie, it will make your day!

monday phone dump {link-up party}

i’ve got a big case of the monday’s today. i need some caffeine in my veins and then maybe things will get going for me, but then again, i need to get dressed in order to go get some so…
last week i just relaxed. i would unpack a box or two but mostly i took the kids to the park everyday and we had lunch. there were a lot of appointments of people coming to the house, i.e. the pool guy and terminix. we are slowly getting back into a routine which is nice, god knows we needed it. here’s   a quick recap of the weekend.  come back tomorrow for a recipe for mulberry pie!

 i am linking up with what makes savanah smile

 * on sunday i had a wedding tasting so i tried out a few new flavor combos, pictured are almond joy and a lemon sponge cake with coconut buttercream. they were delish!
* payton and daddy passed out on friday night, it was so cute how they were laying.
* brayden attempting to eat my face and pull my hair, the usual.

* brayden hanging out in his jumpy. on friday he turned 7 months, i need to find his monthly stickers to take his picture.
* payton pushing her brother in the swing. he loves going high and fast already. two daredevils. great…
* the best lunch date a girl could ask for. each afternoon when i ask her what she wants to eat she usually replies, ‘mac ‘n cheese”.
* on saturday evening we returned home from running errands to costco, target, etc., and came home to our kitchen looking like this. my heart literally stopped, we got pranked my uncle al.
* my baby on his 7-month b-day and his little piggies playing in the grass for the first time.
* payton reacting to the prank, she exclaimed, “are you kidding me?!” ha ha!
