My PB + J

BlogHer’12 {What I’m Wearing}

In a little more than twenty-four hours I will be hopping on a plane for the red eye to BlogHer 2012 in NYC. I am really excited to reconnect with bloggers I met last year and to meet many of my new bloggy “friends”. This trip is also serving as a girl’s trip, so on top of all the BlogHer craziness of: parties, sessions, more parties and swag; we also plan on fitting in a mini food tour. Since BlogHer was in San Diego last year it was really easy to adjust what I was wearing, or pack extra in my car. I do not have that luxury this year and I am trying to pack lightly so I can bring home all the amazing swag that our fav brands will be passing out. I am typically a light packer so I think I will be okay. The key to this trip besides light packing is wearing light breathable clothing. Um, hello?!?! California girls and humidity do not mix well.

I need to tell you I am on a huge budget for this trip. I had a strict budget of spending less than $300 and I pretty much met that goal, coming in right around $250 for six outfits and accessories. I will be on an even tighter budget while in the city. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll see packed away in my suitcase  along with where I purchased and how much I paid.

loft dress originally $89.99 marked down to $54.99 plus an additional 40% off – $27.49.
 stella & dot initial necklace (already owned)

loft ombre dress $69.50 I usually do not pay full price for clothing but I love this dress.
  forever 21 necklace $5.80
  stella & dot cluster ring (already owned)

forever 21 dress $14.80
  forever 21 necklace $3.80

anthropologie chemise  $58.00, I paid $8 (I had an anthro gift card from my birthday last year that went towards this).

forever 21 top $22.80
 gap trouser shorts Originally $49.99 marked down to $21.99 plus an additional 40% off

rachel roy dress – this was my birthday dress purchased from Macy’s – Originally $96, combined with a $10 Birthday note from Macy’s and a 30% off sale plus a $50 Gift Card from my Mom I paid less than $7.

forever 21 top $13.80
 old navy shorts originally $19.94, marked down to $15. I used 25% off coupon making them $11.24
   stella & dot cross stamped necklace (already owned)

This is mainly the jewelry I am bringing. I forgot to place a few pieces out. I have a daughter who loves to raid my jewelry armoire so I have to find a few pieces.
I think I am only packing three pairs of shoes (I think, I might add black pumps)
Black Mossimo sandals (way old, but my fav)
Tory Burch nude sandals $109 originally combined with Amazon.com gift cards and birthday money I didn’t pay a penny.
Guess wedges (purchased two years ago from Nordstrom)

My eye makeup and a blush are safely organized with the stick with it palette. I met the designer of this palette while in Coffee Bean last week and it is the coolest addition to my makeup products. I cannot wait to share one with a lucky reader in the upcoming week!
Nine West Cross Body Purse  I purchased this at Macy’s. Originally $49.99 with 40% off plus an additional 20% for card holders. I paid right around $19.
Kate Spade Wristlet iPhone case. Originally $70, I paid $19. I wanted something for the nighttime parties that wasn’t a handbag but I could still have my phone, credit card and ID.

Are you headed to BlogHer for the first time? Wondering what to wear? Last year I was seven months preggo so I kept it simple and comfy. You will see women in everything from casual jeans to super dolled up. You are representing you so do what you’re most comfortable in and remember those cute shoes you just bought might not be the best idea. You will be walking, walking, walking all day! Schedules are insane and if it’s like last year I will need a week to recover. Check out my posts from last year: here, here and here.

monday phone dump {link-up party}

I have taken a few weeks off of photo fun Monday’s. I guess I felt silly posting the same pics I was posting on insta. I did, however, save a few for today that were not posted. See, that’s how much I missed all y’all!

make sure to follow me via instagram, I am a total over sharer.

 i am linking up with what makes savanah smile and a night owl blog.

Last Saturday we took the kids, along with our fav Filipino family to Chargers stadium for the ‘Bolt to the Q’ family 1k. It was the last time we would see Dr. Nelson; he is headed over to Afghanistan to save the lives of wounded soldiers. We will miss him so very much, this event was the perfect send off even though both Charlie and Payton were being normal shy toddlers. We ended with lunch at True Food Kitchen. YUM!

The following day my nieces and nephew arrived for their five day stay. My sister is back in school after earning her B.S. last year to go to nursing school and had finals last week. Grandma came for reinforcement, it was so fun having a full house! We assembled Payton’s new trampoline (potty training gift from Aunt Kathy & Uncle Al), they went swimming, we spent a day at the zoo and I made them maple bacon pancakes. Oh! and we had a manicure sesh. Brady boy also had his first pancake.
By Friday morning everyone was gone, including daddy. The full house is now empty…which leads to lots of snuggles and tiring out the wee ones so they sleep well at night. My foot is making an appearance because I think it’s neat. Not looking forward to minor surgery in a few weeks.

We spent Saturday morning on the beautiful San Diego bay in Aunt Kathy and Uncle Al’s boat. We cruised the whole bay, making stops to talk to Patty the pelican and Sammy the Sea Lion. We finished the day off with a yummy lunch at an amazing fish market. So blessed to have the family we have.

How was your weekend?

My PB+J is a Nuby Mommy Blogger {new partnership}

I am more than happy to announce that MY PB+J was chosen as a Nuby Mommy Blogger! This is an exciting partnership and I cannot wait to share their amazing products with my readers. We have used Nuby since Payton was a baby and I am in love with the products we have already received.
We will be testing out the Ol’ McDonald plush characters, iMonster fork and spoon, the two handle no spill cup and purICE teether. Upon opening the box I was so thrilled because the Ol’ McDonald plush chicken was so soft and the colors were so vibrant! Payton immediately wanted everything for herself, especially when I tried explaining how they were for her little brother as he begins to transition into big boy eating and drinking. She quickly let up and wanted to use the iMonster fork and spoon with dinner. She kept laughing at the silly monsters and it truly made her meal a lot more fun!

I have something extra special to share with one lucky My PB+J reader! I will be giving away one Grip  N’ Sip handle cup! This cup is great for transitioning baby from the bottle to a sippy, no spills and it’s easy for them hold.

Childhood Summer Vacations {Guest Post Blog Hop}

Today I am linking up with the 20SB blog swap. We have a guest post from the ever so lovely and hilarious, Ally, from loosening the bible belt who is sharing a childhood Summer vacation. To read mine head on over to her blog.

Hi Guys. My name is Ally and I live in the South. The dirty, trashy South. My blog is mostly about the shenanigans that my friends and I get into and the weird things that happen at the bar where I work. Since it is summer time I thought I would share the story of one of my weirdest family vacation moments.

Almost every summer, my family and I would leave our home in West Tennessee and venture east through the smoky mountains to our final destination, the Atlantic ocean via North Carolina. Being extremely susceptible to motion sickness, I dreaded this car ride.

One of our main reasons for going to North Carolina was to go crabbing. My mother was obsessed with this one particular crabbing spot. She would hook her chicken livers up and spend hours on this pier, catching one crab after another. This year she insisted on staying at her spot even though it was obviously going to start storming. Since we were annoying her with our pleas for sanity, she made our father take us to the beach.(Yes, taking your kids to the beach before the impending hurricane is an excellent idea) He obliged and strapped us in to the car. Of course, the only seat available by the time I got in, was the seat next to the overflowing bucket of live crabs. I had never been more terrified in my life. My father, sensing the impending storm, drove as quickly as possible to the beach. This meant that we took some very sharp turns. I screamed every single time because some crab would almost make it out and come close to pinching the shit out of me. By the time we made it to the beach, it was already lightning so all we could do was play in the sand. Worst idea ever.

Once my father had decided that there was, in fact, a storm coming, he took us all back to get my mother. ( An exact repeat of the previous car ride with crabs) By the time we pick up my mother the sun has set and the sky is jet black. She hops into the car, high on crab and insists that she is hungry. Also, she may have been drunk. My father pulls in to a Taco Bell drive-thru a sane response to hunger (kind of) What happened next is completely unexplainable. My mother insisted that my father wear her bra on his head while going through the drive-thru. So she quickly unfastens her bra and places it just so, laughing the whole time. My sister and I look at each other completely mortified. We quickly duck into the floorboards and place pillows over us to hide our shame from the Taco Bell employees.

I never went crabbing or to Taco Bell with my mother ever again.

What is your most embarrassing family vacation moment?

Sincerely and So Forth,
Ally
