My PB + J

GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats #CBias #HuggiesWalmart

Our daughter is a week away from turning three and we’ve been potty trained for over six months now. We still have the occasional accident during the day but at night it’s a whole different story. Last week Jim and I were talking about how to move away from using pull-ups at night and how to end the leaks that were occurring on her mattress as well as ours. Being that this is our first child potty training we are learning as we go and have learned that it needs to be fun to get her on board. We decided that we should order some Huggies GoodNites disposable bed mats and new pajamas to help aid us on the last leg of our potty training journey.

Shipping to my local Walmart store was free of charge and typically the way we ship when using my Walmart.com account. I was slightly apprehensive about heading back to the store for pick-up this time of year because it’s also the layaway desk, but surprisingly the whole process only took about five minutes after I handed my confirmation e-mail to the associate. For less than $10 for nine bed mats we were soon to go for bed time.

The bed mats were a lot larger than I had expected, at 2.6′ x 2.9′ her full sized bed was nearly covered. The back of the mat has an adhesive strip that adheres to the mattress surface ensuring the mat does not move throughout the night. Very helpful since she turns every which way throughout the night.

After the mat was snug under her sheet, we gave her a new pair of pajamas and then she was eager to get into bed to read her favorite book.  While our daughter might fall asleep in her own bed she usually makes it into our bed at some point throughout the night. There are many mornings where our mattress is soaked from a leaky pull-up or she falls asleep without a pull-up on. It’s great knowing all of our beds will be protected no matter where she ends up at night.

We now have the reassurance that our mattresses will be protected at night so we can slowly begin the transition to be pull-up free. The bed mats will be a great addition to bring to Grandma and Papa’s house this Christmas as we travel! It will definitely be a stress reliever knowing the beds will be protected.

Last week as we were discussing the idea of moving forward with our last step of potty training is now leaving us feeling like her turning three might not be so bad with using Huggies GoodNites to tackle our nighttime leaks. Now, I wish Huggies would make travel mats for car seats because that is our biggest issue while traveling any distance.

Ultimate Jingle Cookie Bars & Marshmallow Snowmen #HolidayCandy #CBias

Over the weekend I hit the stores with my Mom after our Thanksgiving dinner in pursuit of the perfect gifts. The other thing on my mind besides straying clear of crazy shoppers was my holiday tot party I am hosting in a few weeks. The kids will be decorating cookies and designing holiday crafts but the mom’s need some yummy treats as we sip mimosa’s and coffee. I am big on the holiday baking and our neighbors always look forward to our cookie trays so I took my Nestle shop as a way to create new recipes for both my party and for our loved ones.
We waited until the rush ended on Friday to visit my local Walmart. My Mom and I found gifts for my nieces and I stocked up on party paper goods including holiday cookie boxes, additional holiday lights to accommodate the new house and the holiday candy that I needed for my recipes. I was specifically looking for Nestle Butterfinger Jingles, Nestle Crunch Jingles, Spree & Sweet Tart candy canes. I couldn’t find all four candy varieties at one location so over the weekend I ended up visiting three locations. Talk about braving the crowds at America’s superstore on the busiest shopping days of the year, isn’t there an award for that? To see my entire shopping trip visit my Google+ album.
The recipe I created uses one of my favorite holiday candies, Butterfinger Jingles. I took a chocolate cookie crust, topped with crunchy salty pretzel pieces, next layered with creamy peanut butter cheesecake and topped off with Butterfinger Jingle cookie dough. Hence, the name, Ultimate jingle cookie bars! There’s a lot packed into this cookie and let me tell you that they will impress your guests!
Ultimate Jingle Cookie Bars
Recipe:
Crust:
1 package Famous Chocolate Wafers, crushed
1 stick of butter, melted
1/2 cup pretzels, crushed
Cheesecake Filling:
10 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Butterfinger Jingle Cookie Dough:
1 stick butter, room temperature
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
18-20 Jingles, chopped into pieces

Preheat your oven to 325º F. Grease or line your baking pan with parchment paper. Mix the melted butter and cookie crumbs into your baking dish until thoroughly combined.

Press mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 8 minutes. Remove pan to a cooling rack.

Once cooled at the crushed pretzel pieces.

In a food processor or stand mixer (I used food processor for easy clean-up due to using it to crush cookies) cream together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Mix in the egg and vanilla on slow speed until combined. Add in the peanut butter and mix until combined. Pour the cheesecake batter over the crust.

Next, unwrap your Jingles. My daughter loves to help in the kitchen so this was her job as my baking assistant. Get your kids in on the baking action! Once they are all unwrapped roughly chop the Jingles.

In your mixer or food processor beat the butter, sugars and vanilla until smooth. Mix in the flour until just incorporated. Next, add the Jingles mix until incorporated.

Take the dough and add little clumps of dough onto the cheesecake filling until it’s all distributed. Flatten the clumps out slightly.

Bake for roughly 40-55 minutes. You’ll need to watch the dough, remove once it feels dry and firm. Move to cooling rack. After about 45 minutes move them to the refrigerator. Slice into bars and serve!
The next recipe was inspired by Nestle and I cannot wait to add these to the kids cookie designing table along with place cards. They are too cute for words and the best thing about them? They won’t melt! For additional recipes and holiday ideas visit verybestbaking.com.

Marshmallow Snowmen

Recipe:

12 squares Nestle Toll House Refrigerated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
12 Nestle Butterfinger or Crunch Jingles, unwrapped
12 pretzel checkerboard snaps
2/3 cup prepared frosting
24 large marshmallows, divided
12 pretzel stick for arms, broken in half
Nestle Toll House mini chocolate chips (a heaping teaspoon)
12 small orange candies (I used orange sprinkles)
Thin-string licorice for scarves (I used sour licorice and cut them into strands)

Instructions:

  • Prepare the cookies as directed on the package. Cool on baking sheet, remove to wire rack to cool completely.
  • To make hats, adhere Jingles to pretzel snaps with frosting, set aside.
  • To make snowmen, insert 2 pretzel sticks into each side of the 12 marshmallows to create arms on base of snowman. Spread frosting onto the center of each cookie; top with snowman base. Press down lightly. Spread additional frosting on top of each snowman base. Top with remaining 12 marshmallows. Pipe a small amount of frosting on marshmallow for chocolate chips and sprinkle. Add the eyes, nose and buttons. For the scarf, add the licorice strand and tie.
*I placed a toothpick down the center of my snowmen because I made them taller.
